NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation

A hands-on introductory pistol course designed for new or inexperienced shooters who want to become more comfortable with safe handgun handling, operation, and basic marksmanship.

This course focuses on one specific pistol action type and provides students with practical, supervised instruction in a small-group setting.

Participants will learn:

• Fundamental firearm safety rules
• Safe pistol handling and operation
• Loading and unloading procedures
• Basic shooting fundamentals
• Proper grip, stance, sight alignment, and trigger control
• Safe storage and responsible ownership
• Live-fire practice under instructor supervision

Duration: Approximately 3 hours
Cost: $90 per student
Class Size: Limited to 5 students
Range Fee: Additional if applicable; typically $10–$20
Live Fire: Yes

Firearm & Ammunition Requirements

Students should bring their own suitable pistol and 50 rounds of factory-new, commercially manufactured ammunition in the original factory box.

Reloaded, remanufactured, or hand-loaded ammunition is not permitted.

No live ammunition is permitted in the classroom. Ammunition must remain secured and outside the classroom until the instructor directs students to bring it to the live-fire portion of the course.

If you do not have a suitable firearm or ammunition, contact Keeper & Legacy in advance. In many cases, we can coordinate a firearm and ammunition for training. Any additional costs will be discussed beforehand.
