NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting

A comprehensive introductory shotgun course designed for new and developing shooters who want a strong foundation in shotgun safety, operation, shooting fundamentals, and responsible firearm ownership.

This course combines classroom instruction, hands-on shotgun handling, and live-fire training under the supervision of an NRA Certified Shotgun Instructor.

Participants will learn:

• Fundamental firearm safety rules
• Shotgun parts and operation
• Shotgun shell components and ammunition fundamentals
• Safe loading and unloading procedures
• Shooting fundamentals
• Range rules and safe range procedures
• Shooting at straight-away and angled moving targets
• Shotgun cleaning and maintenance
• Safe storage and responsible ownership
• Live-fire shooting exercises

Duration: Approximately 10 hours
Cost: $150 per student
Class Size: Limited to 10 students

Shotgun & Ammunition Requirements

Students should bring a safe, functioning shotgun suitable for the course and at least 100 rounds of factory-new, commercially manufactured #7½ or #8 target ammunition in the original, unopened factory box.

Reloaded, remanufactured, or hand-loaded ammunition is not permitted.

No live ammunition is permitted in the classroom. Ammunition must remain secured and outside the classroom until directed by the instructor.

If you do not have a suitable shotgun or ammunition, contact Keeper & Legacy in advance. In many cases, Keeper & Legacy can provide a suitable training shotgun and ammunition for an additional charge. Availability and costs will be discussed beforehand.
